Actress, Blessing Effiom-Egbe decry producers who discriminate against dark-skinned actors
Nollywood actress, Blessing Effiom-Egbe has condemned movie producers who discriminate against dark-skinned actress.
Describing such producers as ‘crayfish producers’, she stated that the act has forced some frustrated actors to consider bleaching.
She wondered why actress, Viola Davis could be making waves in Hollywood, as a dark-skinned actress and Nollywood producers would not do same here.
She wrote: “If you are in the business of film or a film lover, then you must know this face…, she is Viola Davis. A great actor who is soaring high in Hollywood. I don’t know why crayfish producers in Nollywood will be discriminating on dark skinned actors. Instead of Investing in Lights so your scene can be well lit, you shy away from that and only cast fair-skinned actors. When did it get this bad? Does talent no longer matter? Some of the frustrated actors are forced to consider bleaching and those with low self-esteem do so. The result? White faces on black bodies. Uneven skin tones up and down. Wooo! If I see any 2 coloured actors on my audition ground eh… That person will be told the truth! First, it was that the crayfish producers jump and cast actors who have cars so they don’t have to rent cars as props for their production. Car prop that is 10k to rent and use for some hours. Na WA!!!!”
