This is Oddbod and the City – My Lagos Adventure

Am I the only one waiting for the other shoe to drop? Next week, our airspace is supposed to open again after five months of being shut down.

I am not sure what the criteria for finally opening up was (I would have thought making sure the kids could get back in time to quarantine for school would have been a deciding factor), but we remain hopeful because, my people, it was getting out of hand.

The whole “evacuation” flights matter was starting to feel like the prohibition era in the United States. Then, as now, criminal gangs (Yes! I went there!) gained control of the supply (alcohol then and flights now) and the citizens suffered.

That’s all I am going to say about that.

My Girl is On Fire!

This time last week I attended a very lovely al fresco dinner in honour of one of my favourite people, Latasha Ngwube, who just added a new feather to her cap as Accelerate TV’s August cover girl. Dinner was graciously hosted by her long-time friend entrepreneur Adebola Williams, and of course, the good people at Accelerate TV.

My love for Latasha goes back to our days as co-host of the Silverbird show ‘Glam Squad’ and it has been a joy to watch her reach for the stars professionally. She is the poster girl for body positivity, and I don’t want to go on as you can catch her interview on the Accelerate website.

My reputation as a foodie proceeds me so I got a preview of the menu that she had been slaving over for her guests, and I have to say, Chef Linda from @smoleefikpots did not disappoint. We started with potatoes and chicken croquettes with an outstanding basil peas pesto, followed by pasta with arrabiata sauce with ginormous prawns and mussels.
Dessert was tops; an exceptionally executed deconstructed apple crumble with a clever Naija twist—caramelised apple slices, vanilla ice-cream and chin chin crumble. So simple, but that chin chin matter has changed my life, I tell you!
Cocktails and good mood were brought courtesy of Gordon’s gin.
I love to see my friends winning, so all there is left to say is congratulations my darling Latasha, and a huge thank you to the lovely Colette Otusheso, Head of Accelerate, for a wonderful evening.

Twice as Tall – Burna Boy

I downloaded this album a day after it dropped on iTunes and I still managed to be late to this party… a friend stayed up all night and listened to the whole thing back-to-back at least five times before I had gotten out of bed the next morning.
That is the movement that is Burna Boy, and I am 100% here for it.

Lately, there have been some articles in the Western press suggesting that Beyoncé by endorsing Burna Boy is the cause of Afrobeat’s going international. I can’t fully express the feelings that brought out in me because the language I would have to employ is not for polite consumption.

It would be crime for me not to acknowledge this and for the record add my two cents: categorically wrong on so many levels.

As for the album, I am still working my way through. So far, Naughty by Nature is doing it for me and I have had that on repeat. It’s a solid album; I can’t wait for the videos to start dropping.
Mr Grammy, we are coming for you!

Last month I was raving about an affordable disinfecting mist machine I had come across by a company called HNL Synergy Trade Consulting (info@hnl-synergy-trade.com).

I loved the fact that it used a food-grade, safe and odourless disinfecting solution.
It has now been upgraded with a laser sensor, which activates the unit when it senses a body. As we wait for schools to open, I cannot help but think this will be a great additional safety measure that we should be looking at to keep the children safe.
