Prince Philip, the family patriarch and husband of Queen Elizabeth the second, was laid to rest a few moments which took place at Windsor Castle.
In line with government guidelines, the event was scaled back and it was a very personal family occasion which recognised His Royal Highness’s military associations and included some unique personal touches, which had been specially requested by The Duke.
The service was conducted by the Dean of Windsor alongside the Archbishop of Canterbury. The hymns and readings were chosen by The Duke.
His coffin was carried by a Land Rover designed by The Duke, and accompanied on its journey by representatives of the Armed Forces, members of the Royal Family, The Duke’s Household and Her Majesty The Queen.
‘The Last Post’ was sounded by Buglers of the Royal Marines, signalling that a soldier has gone to his final resting place. It is followed by ‘Action Stations’, a naval call to battle, as requested by The Duke of Edinburgh.
