Kano court annuls Ganduje’s daughter’s marriage

The marriage of Asiya Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and her husband, Inuwa Uba, has been annulled by the Kano State Upper Sharia Court.

Asiya, the daughter of Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, had petitioned the court, requesting that her marriage be annulled on the grounds that she is fed up, and declared her willingness to refund the sum of N50,000 received as dowry.

In his reaction, Uba stated that it went beyond the question of dowry and claimed that Asiya held some of his property.

The trial judge, Mallam Abdullahi Haliru, declared in his decision that the evidence presented during the case established that the plaintiff received N50,000.

According to him, the court issued the verdict based on the dowry, which is supposed to be the foundation of the marriage.

Asiya was ordered by the judge to return the dowry.

Addressing the court following the verdict, Uba’s counsel requested that the court provide him with records of the proceedings and stated his plan to petition the Upper Court to challenge the judgment’s analysis.
