Tips on organizing a small kitchen

By – Jennifer Chukwujekwe

Organizing a small kitchen can be a challenge, but with some thoughtful planning and creativity, you can maximize the available space and make it more functional.

Here are some tips to help you organise a small kitchen:

1. Declutter: Start by getting rid of items you rarely use or no longer need. Clear out your cabinets, drawers, and countertops, and donate or discard items that you haven’t used in a while.

2. Use vertical space: Utilize the walls and backsplash to hang shelves, hooks, and magnetic strips to store frequently used items like pots, pans, and utensils. This frees up valuable counter and drawer space.

3. Invest in space-saving storage solutions: Look for storage containers, bins, and organizers that are specifically designed for small spaces. There are many options available, such as stackable containers, drawer dividers, and collapsible items.

4. Group similar items together: Organize your kitchenware by grouping similar items together. For example, keep all baking supplies in one area, pots and pans in another, and frequently used utensils within easy reach.

5. Use the insides of cabinet doors: Install hooks or small shelves on the inside of cabinet doors to store items like cutting boards, pot lids, or measuring cups. This helps keep these items accessible while maximizing space.

6. Optimize drawer space: Use drawer dividers to keep utensils and small tools organized and prevent them from jumbling together.

7 . Organise the pantry: If you have a pantry, make sure it’s well-organized with clear containers and labeled shelves. Keep frequently used items at eye level for easy access.

Remember, organizing a small kitchen is all about being smart with your storage solutions and making the most of the available space. Be creative and adaptable to find solutions that work best for your specific needs and kitchen layout.
