Brief analysis of BFM Fashions enterprise’s Flexifits Collection released at the Lagos Fashion Festival, 2024

By Yemisi Suleiman

BFM Fashion Enterprise’s latest collection, “FlexiFits,” which premiered at the Lagos Fashion Festival on 2nd of March, introduces a pivotal improvement in adapting classic tailoring to contemporary fashion needs.

The collection showcases an urban style for the traditional three-piece suit, offering versions that replace trousers with skirts, thereby catering to a diverse audience.

The collection’s highlight is its ability to seamlessly transition between traditional and contemporary styles, offering pieces that can be mixed and matched to suit various occasions.

This adaptability was achieved using high-quality fabrics such as Cotton, Wool, Cashmere, Tweed, Linen, and Silk that maintain structure while offering comfort and movement, which are non-negotiable details for the dynamic lifestyle of today’s professionals.

The skirts in the collection have a few asymmetrical A-line or high-low hems. A few of these same diverse skirts have pleats, pockets, ruffles, and flares to add to the beauty and uniqueness of the collection. This versatility also enables the wearer to pair the skirts with a shirt dress without necessarily going for a suited look.

The collection, however, is in black, grey, Blue, Lilac, and Baby Pink colors. Some suits are on pre-order, and two options are bespoke or tailored. The models who walked the runway to display FlexiFits showed the audience a glimpse into Funke’s competence as a fabric manipulator and draper, with the varying styles detailedly patterned with tasteful design styles and color palettes that exude an outstanding level of flair.

The founder of BFM Fashion Enterprise, Funke Mary Babatola made these meticulously tailored attires to help the wearer maintain a professional and sleek appearance while incorporating flexible style elements that appeal to modern sensibilities. With each design, Funke manifested an innovative design technique to enhance the adaptability of classic forms, stamping each piece with details that allow for great functionality and versatility.

Funke Mary Babatola created “FlexiFits” to help customers project their personalities. Hence, seeing the collection stand out at the Lagos Fashion Festival is impressive. The authenticity embedded in the collection aligns with the considerable demand for more intuitive design ideas. The collection also exposes her secondary skills, specifically sewing and tailoring.

The “FlexFits” collection has the potential to set new trends in business attire, particularly with the integration of skirts into what has traditionally been a male-dominated suit format.

This aspect of the collection not only challenges gender norms in fashion but also broadens the appeal of the three-piece suit to a broader audience.

Its debut at the Lagos Fashion Festival has enhanced Babatola’s reputation as a forward-thinking designer and contributed significantly to the ongoing dialogue about innovation and inclusivity in fashion.
