Excitement as ECHSOSA ’84 Set marks 40th anniversary

It was all excitement, laced with nostalgic feelings, fun, and a spirit of camaraderie when old students of Ebenezer Comprehensive High School Old Students Association (ECHSOSA) 1984 Set, gathered recently in Lagos to mark the 40th anniversary of their graduation.

The old students, who met at the Lagos State Cooperative College Event Hall in Agege in Lagos, used the opportunity to reconnect and celebrate the grace of God over the lives of members.

Speaking at the event, Captain Ayo Makinde, the National President of Ebenezer Comprehensive High School Old Students Association (ECHSOSA) Worldwide, linked the success many of the set members recorded in life to the solid foundation they had in school.

He noted that the set produced bright scholars, outstanding industry and community leaders, and political figures, all of which may not have been possible but for the sound academics and moral discipline, which was instilled in them

Makinde advised parents with children or wards, especially in secondary schools to compliment the efforts of their teachers by paying more attention to what their children do in schools.

“When we were in school, education was taken seriously by individuals and parents. Parents do not pay so much attention again. If you look at the quality of students being produced these days, they are far behind, a lot of us are doing great today because we took our academics seriously. I am Captain and I am at the peak of my career, but these days, a lot is only interested in making money that is why you find them doing dubious things.”

Makinde revealed that the old students have embarked on other projects to give back to their Alma Mater, including an e-library, a science laboratory, and water projects..

He commended the members of the set for their uniqueness, strength of character, unity, and sense of purpose, all of which have helped them achieve what they have in the school.

Also speaking, Oluwasegunfunmi Owodeyi President, ECHSOSA ’84 said in his address said “ECHS did not only impact valuable and immeasurable academic excellence in us,  but was also responsible for making us complete men and women, fit and sociable to network the strata of the society for the common good.

He urged his colleagues to take advantage of the gathering to renew old friendships and establish a bond with one another for support and encouragement, for now, and in the years to come.

The event’s highlight was the recognition and awards of appreciation to three of their teachers. The members present also reminisced on old memories of how things were done during their days in school (positive and negative).
