Lifestyle brand, Hingees, over the weekend, celebrated its tenth anniversary with an intimate exhibition in Lagos.
Themed “A Decade of Daring,” the event, a colourful blend of fun and high entertainment, drew friends and customers, as well as fashion and lifestyle enthusiasts, from diverse walks of life.
Speaking on the brand’s ten-year journey, Designer/Founder, Hingees, Hammed Goodman Okunade, described the last ten years as ‘daring’ for daring to begin, daring to stay consistent and daring to stay true.
Okunade said, “I started out as a brand and graphics designer who just wanted to create simple, functional items that could inspire people in their everyday lives when I launched Hingees in 2015. It wasn’t about fashion for me but curiosity; I just wanted to make simple, functional products that people could connect with; pieces that hold meaning and serve as reminders to stay true, stay moving and live intentionally. We began with a few T-shirt designs engraved with bold assertions such as ‘Do More, Talk Less’, ‘People Matter’, ‘Don’t Settle’, ‘Limitless’ and ‘Keep Going’; and those statements quickly grew into a community and movement.”
He continued: “From those first shirts, the brand gradually expanded into what it is now; a full lifestyle catalogue. Today, we make not just apparel but leather accessories, travel gear, stationery, drinkware and other everyday essentials. And as we look ahead, we’re even exploring home lifestyle pieces such as furniture and others. The growth has been steady, intentional and rooted in the same philosophy we started with.”
Speaking on his inspiration, Okunade said the commitment to creating simple, meaningful products that people can relate to; products that connect with their mindset and everyday life, has remained his driving force since the brand debuted in 2015.
