Bird flu reported in Kano state ahead of festivities

An outbreak of bird flu has been reported by the Kano State Director Veterinary Services, Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr Shehu Bawa ahead of the festivities.
Bawa said the outbreak was recorded in one of the poultry farms in the state. He added that the affected farm had been depopulated while stringent measures were taken to prevent the spread of the disease.
He said, “The state government has taken proactive measures to contain the spread of the disease to other farms within the state.” He said part of the measures taken to check the spread of the disease include disinfection of the affected farm and routine surveillance of other farms.
Bawa called on farmers to immediately report to the appropriate authority, should there be an outbreak of the disease in their respective farms, so government can take appropriate actions.
