AFWN Day 2: Eclectic, alluring and controversial

The African Fashion Week Nigeria has ended and it did while bringing out different emotions from attendees of  its final show on the last day of the two-day event.

The last show, which had in attendance the likes of Erelu Dosunmi, Abba Folawiyo, was off to a dramatic opening show as Keex wowed the audience with an Eyo masqurade show before showing off its new  shoe collection called Ibile collection. You can catch the video bit on our Instagram handle.

While guests were still catching their breath, Alexander II Akande from Yaounde, Cameroun came on with its collections of pieces for both men and ladies. The statement neck piece of the female and jumpsuits were some of the highlights of Akande’s exhibition.

The collection from Veba Fabrics were well sewn and particular attention to details were paid. However, the fabric was shiny, which makes it a good choice for night events but a bit in your face for a day event.

On a controversial note was the Sally Bawa collection. The first two pieces of her collections left the audience wondering what was happening, as they were not sure, if they were lingeries or underwears or underwear worn the wrong way.

For this collection, there was a lot of bared skin. Some were nicely done and others were just dripping with of obvious sensuality. The audience were a bit turned off and then the designer chose to just show her face rather than walk the runway with her models, which attendees didn’t like like. They were clamouring to put a face to the maker of the raunchy outfits.
