By Patricia Uyeh,

A bold and beautiful woman is one confident in her own skin. Having a beautiful skin is not a luxury as with proper skin care regimen and healthy eating, good skin would come naturally.

However, women particularly pregnant ones and mothers are prone to skin problems emanating from stretch marks.

So what exactly is Stretch marks?
Stretch marks  are indented streaks that often appear on the abdomen, breasts, hips, buttocks and thighs. Over time they become less noticeable. They are neither painful nor harmful but they make the skin appear pale.

Stretch marks make some people feel distressed about the way they make their skin look. Those prone to stretch marks include:

-Those having a personal or family history of stretch marks
– Pregnant women, especially for younger women
-Those that are overweight or obese
-Those rapidly gaining or losing weight
-Those using corticosteroid medication
-Those undergoing breast enlargement surgery
-Those having Cushing’s syndrome, Marfan syndrome or certain other genetic disorders

Research shows that the best way to reduce the likelihood of getting stretch marks is to maintain a healthy weight. In cases where you detect having stretch mark, see your doctor, so he/she can help determine the cause of the stretch marks and discuss treatment options.
