Tara Durotoye shares on how she’s been able to pull through 18 years in marriage
Beauty entrepreneur, Tara Durotoye, who yesterday, Sunday, May 12, celebrated her 18th wedding anniversary with husband, Fela, has shared on how they’ve been able to pull through in their almost two decades of marriage.
The mother of three took to her Instagram page to reminiscence on the journey as she revealed she and Fela had to make some choices early and they’ve stayed with them.
Here is the full text of what she wrote:
“Will you like me to share one thing I have learned in my 18yrs in marriage?
“Do you remember when you had your very first child and you paid attention to every sound to be sure they are breathing, paid attention to every cough to be sure there is no congestion in the chest and check the nappy to avoid any discomfort etc is the same RAPT attention one must pay to one’s partner in this journey of life.
“Checking in that the marriage temperature is right.
“Basically it’s about being intentional ⚫️Being present ⚫️ being attentive ⚫️Thinking of the other and not one’s self.
“As a couple, we made some choices early and stayed with them e.g to take some time away to spend time with each other.
“On our first year wedding anniversary vacation, we spent much of our precious vacation time quarreling about whatever. We then realized that, with all the money we spent on vacation, the least we can do is enjoy each other, especially on vacation. Since then we have kept to our promise.
“17 yrs out of 18 yrs we have kept this promise to each other. It’s sacrosanct!
“We started by visiting Portnovo where we camped with other believers and then to Ghana in our second year. I stayed in a hotel that Fd says he was nervous that I will hate ?. I must have hated it so much I don’t remember it .#challengesofnothavingcompletemoney?.
“We have traveled outside Nigeria and sometimes stayed within but the time together we spent.
“Senegal, Cotonou, Gambia, Dubai, US, Ilashe, London, Kenya (Thanks to FD’s mentee @bevchahonyo )Capetown, Venice (Thanks to Aunty @mmwithnimi who pointed it out & @ibukunawosika who got us the best deals )and here we are in the #maldives.
“It’s a journey of continuous fine-tuning but it’s easier when you do it with someone you love but most especially with one who loves you too and is willing to put in the WORK required.
“I hope this makes sense ❤️ Our journey is ours in many cases unique to us but seeking and exploring is what we continue to do.
“Love always,
