Coronavirus: Lagos begins tracking of contacts with index case

Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, at a joint news briefing, confirmed that the patient is in stable condition, and has every health intervention needed to save him.
Sanwoolu assured that government is enjoying necessary cooperation from the company the Italian works for where he had visited on arrival as its management is assisting in reaching to all he had contact with for easy containment.
Commissioner for Health Professor Akin Abayomi also assured that the Preparedness team with support from the Nigeria centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and Federal Ministry of Health have started to identify all the contacts of the Italian right to the way to the Airline that brought him into Nigeria.
“We have started this contact tracing process of all those who have come in contact with him so that we can start our isolation and containment exercise to ensure that we break the cycle of transmission”, said Abayomi.
He disclosed that the process commenced at about 3:am GMT and all hands would be on deck to ensure everyone who sat behind, in front and around him on the Airline are identified as well as others he came in contact with to enable the containment of the infection beyond the Italian.
Abayomi also stated that the patient is confined and government is on the case to ensure it is able to identify everybody the man has come in contact with.
“His symptoms are subsiding, he does not have any symptoms of respiratory disease which is probably a good thing; but he does have fever and body pains.
“If he has respiratory symptoms, it is probably likely that he may be more contagious than he is at the moment”, the Commissioner explained.
