Don’t scare away our investors – Filmmaker, Emem Isong tells NBC
Nollywood producer and director, Emem Isong has reacted to the recently released 6th code by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), which makes it illegal for movie streaming providers to claim exclusive rights over their content.
According to the filmmaker who has been in the industry for 24 years creating and developing content, the new NBC code will scare away investors, both nationally and internationally.
In an outburst on Instagram, the award-winning director and producer said:
“I have been a filmmaker for over 24 years and have been creating and developing content for those number of years. We have employed thousands of people within the Nigerian film industry. Producers, directors, actors, makeup artists, Gaffers, production designers and everyone within that Eco system have toiled endlessly to make something out of nothing with very little support.
“The sector is looking attractive, investors both nationally and internationally are looking in and bringing investments slowly, and now they come up with this?!!!!! Please let us appeal to @nbcgovng to have a rethink.
“You cannot take away my right to sell my content, who to sell to, when to sell and how much to sell?!!!!! Please Do Not kill Nollywood and don’t scare away some of our investors @roknigeria @irokotv @netflix @dstvnigeria. Take your knee off our necks and let us breathe!!!
“My content is my property!!! #mycontentmyproperty.”
