After a year’s hiatus the much anticipated Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards, returns with a lot of exciting line ups this year.

Asides the usual red carpet and awards show, this year’s AMVCAs which is the 8th edition, billed to hold on May 14th, will feature the AMVCA Runway Show, a special event to showcase exceptional fashion talent on the continent.

Briefing the press recently in Lagos, Head of Content Africa Magic, Dr. Busola Tejumola, disclosed that the eighth edition will run from Saturday, May 7, 2022, to Saturday, May 14, 2022, in Lagos.

It will commence with an Opening Night on Saturday, 7 May, followed by the first-ever AMVCA runway show in partnership with Bella Naija Style on Sunday, 8 May, tagged ‘Design for the Stars’, and will feature a competition for budding fashion designers.

Speaking on the inclusion of a fashion show Dr. Tejumola, said “From costumes to red carpets, the role that fashion plays in film cannot be overestimated. Our continent is blessed with some of the most talented fashion designers and creatives you will find anywhere in the world. This is why, in line with our commitment to continually support local talents, we are beaming the spotlight on this very important element of the film for this edition of the awards.”

Apart from fashion, Tejumola informed that the curated events this year, will also feature a celebration of technology, food and African culture. There will also be panel discussions and film screenings from the MultiChoice Talent Factory, industry sessions, and competitions for digital content creators.

Tejumola stated that the introduction of the eight-day series of events will reinvent and bring exciting changes to the awards which had its first edition in 2013. “We are focused on shining the light on the many aspects that make the African film and television industry truly magical and beaming that magic to millions of Africans who watch the awards every year.
