Yeni Kuti clocks 62 today
Yeni Kuti, the first child of legendary Afrobeat musician and pioneer, late Fela Anikulapo Kuti, on Wednesday, May 24, turned 62 years old.
She was born in 1961, in England, United Kingdom.
Yeni had her primary and secondary school education in Lagos State, before proceeding to study journalism at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism in Lagos State.
She quit her work as a fashion designer in 1986 and became a vocalist and dancer in her brother, Femi Kuti’s band.
YK, as she is fondly called pioneered the idea of Felabration, a music festival conceived to celebrate the life and contributions of her father Fela Kuti to Nigerian society.
