4 RUNWAY TRENDS: HOW TO DO

October 16,2016

By Yemisi Suleiman

The fashion week has come and gone, but left a lot of trends in its wake. From New York, London, to the Africa Fashion Week Nigeria and London, designers presented collections that were similiar; ruffles, metalics, clashing prints, feminine silhouettes and more ruled the runways across the world.
To take these trends from the runway to your wardrobe, here are tips on how to do this season’s trends.

1.      Clashing prints

Do not be afraid to take  style risk with mix prints. Well, this NYFW and the AFWL trend say the more the merrier! Diane Von Furstenberg and DaViva collections were filled with bold fabrics that took the ‘clash’ out of colour-clashing.

How to do:

Combine big and small pattern/prints. Wear the same print-one version being larger than the other, like ensemble below.

2.      Shine

Thanks to a strong showing on the 2016 runways, shiny gold and iridescent fabric is poised to be a seasonal standout. Now is the time to embrace all things sparkling.

 How to Do

For any occasion when you want to be just a little bit too much, throw on an iridescent ,or trousers with a matching frill top, add the right accessory and you are good to go.

3.      Sheer bliss

This season, designers avoided heavier fabrics for delicate peek-a-boo elements in their collections. Frills and ruffles were accomplished on Chantilly lace for a delicate and sheer effect.

How to Do

For a modest take on this bare trend, look for dresses edged in sheer panels; you can wear them for ,as well as, for night outs. You look sexy in a demure way.

4.      Ruffle
We saw ruffles last year, and this year; it looks like it’s sticking around for this 2016 fashion season. Several designers employed this fluffy trend as trimmings on  skirts and dresses.

 How to Do

For a night out, slip on an off-shoulder ruffled dress ,or style a girly top with a pair of fresh white skinny jeans with matching heels.
