Allure Style IQ: Mimi Onalaja Defines Her Style

Mimi Onalaja is a TV presenter, budding actress, and Fashion/Lifestyle, Columnist.

The graduate of New York Film Academy is well known for creating some pretty iconic looks at every occasion she honors.

Mimi, the stylish and pretty diva shares her fashion, style tips as well as her projects.

Can we know more about Mimi Onalaja?

I’m a young woman who’s on an exciting journey in life; trying to find happiness and fulfilment in my choices and actions, and working towards my purpose by living an impactful life. I’m 28 soon, a TV Presenter, Host and Actor, a lover of fashion/style, travel, food, family and friendship.

What inspires you?

I’m greatly inspired by other women, women doing amazing things at different levels and stages of their lives. Top of that list is my mum who embodies the meaning of motherhood + career to me. She’s joined by my sister-girls who shock me everyday with their awe-inspiring & age-defying moves and to round it off, amazons including Mo Abudu, Oprah Winfrey and Ellen Degeneres who’ve gone ahead and proven to me that there’s absolutely nothing I can’t do as a TV Girl as long as I set my mind to it.

Aside TV, what else are you into?

When I’m not on TV, I’m hosting live events. It’s an aspect of my job that I particularly love as almost nothing beats the thrill of interacting and engaging with so many people in real time.

Do you have any project you’re working on?

I do, and I’m very excited about them. Expect a show on TV soon, one that I can promise will be equal parts entertaining & engaging, and will definitely make you happy! Before that, I have a campaign in the works that celebrates body positivity and total confidence in self. It’s a very special message to me that I hope people absolutely love, and I can’t wait to see how it impacts.

You are seen as a fashion icon, what inspires what you wear to events?

The theme of the event and my mood that week; those are the things that inspire my look to events.

Who are those top designers you love and patronise?

Everyone knows I love my Fablane by Derin! I’m also totally in love with Lanre Da Silva Ajayi, Tubo, Andrea Iyamah & Sisiano and for everyday, My T5s, Ms Beefab and Ayaba have my heart. I could go on and on to be honest.

Which designer outfit do you covet to wear?

I’d love to wear Lisa Folawiyo and Bridget Awosika pieces. The former has some of the best prints I’ve ever seen and the latter does such amazing work striking a balance between structured and romantic pieces which I love.

What are those fashion items you can’t do without?

These days, I can’t do without my stack of bracelets. I think they call it a Wrist Party?

How do you like your dresses?

– I like my dresses comfortable, colourful and full of character.

Bangles or Wristwatch?

Both.

Flats or heels?

Heels.

Favourite beauty product?

Sunscreen and Lip Gloss.

Tell us your favourite perfume and what makes it special to you?

Elie Saab Le Parfum (White). There’s no sentimental story here, I love the scent and decided to stick with it for a while.

Favourite colour?

Pink.

Favourite holiday destination?

Los Angeles. It’s the perfect mix of fun in the sun & beaches and a vibrant city & nightlife; plus it my favourite city ever after Lagos, period.

How do you relax?

I go to the movies by myself, order all my faves at the concession stand and have the time of my life. It’s almost therapeutic for me.

Define your style?

My Style is comfortable, mostly simple with a striking detail and chic.
