5 homemade remedies for everyday beauty problems

February 28,2019

We all have them. Those days where we just don’t feel our best, look our best or feel as though we look our best. And while we can run out to the store to buy a product that could probably solve our beauty dilemma, chances are we would be spending way more than we need to. Especially when there are home remedies and DIY fixes for just about every beauty dilemma out here. And while we may not all face the same problems, here are five homemade beauty remedies that have saved the day for many more times than they care to count.

Un-puff puffy eyes with green tea ice cubes

Instead of going to the store and buying those expensive roll-on eye serums, you can save your money and just brew yourself 2 cups of very strong green tea.

Then all you have to do is pour your (strong and caffeinated) tea, wait 30 minutes for it to cool, and then simply pour your tea into ice cube trays and freeze.

And what’s even better about this handy little tip is that green tea isn’t just good for your puffy eyes, but it also works wonders on oily or acne-prone skin. So feel free to get a little wild and rub that ice cube all over your face, especially if your entire face is feeling puffy.

Kiss your flakes goodbye with coconut oil

If you notice those nasty flakes landing on your shoulders and turning your fab outfit into a slightly embarrassing fashion faux-pas, pick up some cold-pressed virgin coconut oil.

The benefit of this type of coconut oil is that it has all the active moisturizers and antibacterial goodness that you need to fight those flakes.

All you have to do is massage 3-5 tablespoons of your coconut oil directly onto your scalp, and leave it on for about one hour. Make sure you do this before you wash your hair to get the best results. Once your hour is up, shampoo your hair as usual and avoid conditioner as the oil with help to pre-condition your hair.

Repeat this treatment every day for up to 7 days and you should see your flakes disappear.

Banish Ill-timed breakouts with lavender essential oil and clay

This remedy may or may not work for you, depending on your skin but seeing as I have quite normal skin, it seems to do the trick.

Grab yourself some cosmetic clay and some lavender essential oil. Both of these can be found at any natural food store.

Simply combine half a teaspoon of clay with 2 or 3 drops of essential oil and a few tiny drops of water, just enough to make your clay into more of a paste.

Then all you have to do is spot-treat your pimples by dabbing your clay mixture directly onto your pimple and leave it on for at least an hour, or leave it overnight if you are feeling extra daring.

And that’s it! Wake up the next morning to no more pimple and thank your lucky stars you found this handy tip, especially if you have a hot date coming up.

Kiss your headache goodbye with cayenne pepper and peppermint oil

While it’s not necessarily a beauty ailment, you don’t exactly feel your most gorgeous when your head is pounding. So to get rid of that incessant ache just sprinkle some cayenne pepper on whatever you want to eat, or even sprinkle some into a cup of tea.

The capsaicin in the cayenne pepper helps to get rid of a neurotransmitter called Substance P, which works to send pain impulses.

It’s a handy little painkiller that doesn’t have any side effects other than a bit of a spicy kick.

Once you have consumed your cayenne then just simply dab a drop of peppermint oil (diluted with another oil such as sweet almond oil) to each temple, close your eyes, sit back and relax for around 15 minutes.

Once your 15 minutes are up, your headache SHOULD be gone. If not, relax for another 5 minutes. After all, who can argue with relaxing?

Un-chap your lips with baking soda and cocoa butter

Mix baking soda with milk (or sour cream) until you have created yourself a thick paste that won’t run off your lips.

Scrub your lips very lightly in a circular motion for up to 3 minutes before rinsing with water. After you have rinsed your lips off, nourish them by coating them with cocoa butter every few hours.

While this may not cure your cracked or chapped lips instantaneously, it will help to gradually treat them and get them in top kissable shape!

Five easy and oh-so-affordable natural fixes for some of our most common beauty ailments. That Mother Nature really knows how to make a good organic beauty treatment!
