Social Media Week Lagos 2019 Recap
Here is recap of what went down at the just concluded #SMWLagos 2019 incase you missed it.
Day One(Monday) marked the grand opening of Africa NXT, the marketplace that featured a plethora of vendors and activities, including a place to sip coffee, a beer stand, pop up massages and fashion boutiques. The paintertainer,Nimi Izulu showed us what it meant to be an artist.
Day One was also our Future of Media summit, where leaders in journalism, digital media and social media discussed the media climate today. Discussions included the impact of social media ahead of elections – and how platforms such as Google and Facebook are trying to combat the spread of fake news.
Day Two, #TravelAfricaDay got into the business and aesthetic of travel on the continent. Travelpreneurs gave the lowdown on how to make money from your passion. We also finished out the day with African Karoke Night.
Then Day three (Wednesday) was Music Day powered by BeatFM. The day focused on the intricacies of the music business in Nigeria. M.I Abaga dropped in to challenge the relationship between artists and record labels.
Governance Day on Day four (Thursday) examined the role of social media and tech in politics, government and civil society. The Not All Heroes Wear Capsconversation analyzed the difference between activism and advocacy.
And finally on Day five(Friday), women founders and executives were celebrated. The day included tips on how to achieve equity in the workplace. Attendees also got to know the continent’s hottest startups at the #LaunchedInAfrica Pitch Fest.
