Selena Gomez plans on quitting Instagram

January 9,2020
Share:

American singer and actress, Selena Gomez,  has shared her plans of quitting Instagram because it is “addictive” and “unhealthy” for her.

The 27-year-old songwriter revealed her plans of leaving the social media to Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, saying she only got back to it because of her promotional work for her new studio album.

“I took a break off (Instagram) for a year, maybe a year and a half. I’d rather stay away from anything that’s going to make me feel like s**t,” she said.

“… I got back on (Instagram) because I was releasing music, but I just told my best friend Courtney (Lopez) yesterday, I’m going to have to take it off my phone again soon.”

She added that she had an addictive personality and Instagram can be “unhealthy” for her.

“They know I have an addictive personality, and it can be unhealthy,” she added.

This will not be the first time the singer would be ditching the social media.

In 2017, she told Vogue that she freaked out when she became the most followed person on Instagram and explained why she went “ghosting”.

“As soon as I became the most followed person on Instagram, I sort of freaked out,” she had said.

“It had become so consuming to me. It’s what I woke up to and went to sleep to, I was an addict, and it felt like I was seeing things I didn’t want to see, like it was putting things in my head that I didn’t want to care about. I always end up feeling like sh*t when I look at Instagram. Which is why I’m kind of under the radar, ghosting it a bit.”

In September 2018, she announced that she was taking a break from social media on Instagram with a picture of her smiling.

“Mood lol (I was looking at myself in the mirror -like an idiot!) Update: taking a social media break. Again.” she said

“As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given. Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember- negative comments can hurt anybody’s feelings. Obvi.”

She went off till January 14, 2019 when she broke the silence with a “happy new year” message.

“It’s been awhile since you have heard from me, but I wanted to wish everyone a happy new year and to thank you for your love and support. Last year was definitely a year of self-reflection, challenges and growth. It’s always those challenges which show you who you are and what you are capable of overcoming. Trust me, it’s not easy, but I am proud of the person I am becoming and look forward to the year ahead. Love you all.”
