From May 4, If you don’t have reason to be outside, stay home – COVID-19, survivor warns

Nigeria COVID-19 survivor, Oluwaseun Ayodeji Osowobi, has warned members of the public who do not have reason to be outside from May 4 to stay at home.

Speaking from experience, the 29-year-old Nigerian activist emphasised the need to wear face masks, practice social distancing, and washing of hands regularly, if one must really go out.

She also counseled against boarding crowded buses as well.

The Founder Stand to End Rape Initiative, (STER) gave this warning in tweet on Tuesday.

She wrote: “From May 4, If you don’t have a reason to be outside, please #StayatHome. Take it from someone who has been there, you don’t want a #COVID19 experience. If you really must go out, please wear face masks, practice social distancing (no enter bus oLoudly crying face) and wash your hands. #StaySafe.”

President Muhammadu Buhari had on Monday evening announced the gradual phasing out of the country’s lockdown in Ogun States, Lagos and Abuja from the May 4.

‘Seun was at the United Kingdom capital to attend on March 9 the Commonwealth Day Service, where she was the official flag bearer.

After arriving in Lagos, she fell ill and decided to get tested for COVID-19, the highly infectious respiratory disease caused by the new coronavirus.

The test came back positive and after which she was taken to a specialised facility to receive medical care. There, she was treated and got discharged following her recovery from COVID-19.

Since she recovered, Oluwaseun has promised that to keep advocating for the end of stigmatisation because she realizes that there is still a sort of stigma attached to the issue.
