Davido performs “Gobe”, “Aye” & “Jowo” on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert (Video)

Davido has recounted when his father and billionaire Adedeji Adeleke used to work at a fast-food restaurant in the United States of America.

The music star made this known during his live performance on NPR’s Tiny Desk, concerts hosted to celebrate Black History Month.

According to him, his father’s humble beginning remains his biggest inspiration. He said:

“The inspiration for me has been my father, a Nigerian-American like me. He studied in the States. I studied there myself. I went to HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities), a predominantly black college.

“My dad went to one as well. He used to work at Burger King. He was a manager at Burger King.”

Davido has long expressed pride in his father’s success. He titled his 2012 debut album “Omo Baba Olowo”, meaning “son of a rich man” in the Yoruba language.

He and his band created a sultry vibe with a unique rendition of “Gobe,” his smash 2013 single, to open the set. In collaboration with the Alternate Sound band, Davido strips back “Aye,” a hit from 2014. Rounding out this Tiny Desk (home) concert, he concludes with “Jowo,” a single from the album that conjures hope for better times ahead.
