Tips on Minimising Hair Damage

One of the fear of most people especially women is how to minimise hair damage while being adventurous with their hair goals especially when using Somma developer peroxide (hydrogen peroxide).

Here are some tips on minimising hair damage.

Choose the Right Strength: Select a developer strength appropriate for your hair and the desired level of lightening. Lower strengths, such as 10 or 20 volume, are less damaging than higher strengths.

Perform a Strand Test Before applying the developer to your entire hair, conduct a strand test to assess how your hair will react. This helps prevent unexpected damage or color results. Follow Instructions Carefully Read and follow the instructions provided with the developer and any accompanying hair dye or bleach products.

Proper mixing ratios and application techniques are crucial for minimizing damage

Limit Frequency Avoid frequent use of hydrogen peroxide-based products on your hair, as over-processing can lead to dryness, breakage, and damage. Space out treatments to allow your hair time to recover.

Use Conditioning Treatments: Prioritize hair conditioning treatments before and after using hydrogen peroxide-based products. Deep conditioning masks and leave-in conditioners can help replenish moisture and strengthen hair strands.

Protective Measures Consider applying a protective barrier, such as coconut oil or a commercial hair protector, to the ends of your hair before applying hydrogen peroxide. This can help shield these delicate areas from excessive damage. Avoid Overlapping When applying hydrogen peroxide to re-touch roots or colour-correct, avoid overlapping the product onto previously processed hair. Overlapping can cause double processing and increased damage. Monitor Processing Keep a close eye on the processing time and regularly check the color of your hair during the bleaching or coloring process.

Rinse out the product promptly once the desired level of lightening is achieved to prevent over-processing.

Treatment Care: After rinsing out the hydrogen peroxide-based product, use a gentle shampoo and conditioner formulated for colour-treated or damaged hair to maintain its health and integrity. By following these tips, you can help minimize hair damage when using Somma developer peroxide or any hydrogen peroxide-based hair products.
