I had the incredible opportunity to witness the “Marvel Beauty Collection” by Annette Couture at the AFAA Runway Showcase 2024 in Cape Town, South Africa, and it was an unforgettable experience.

Created by the talented Olawunmi Niyi-Leigh, the collection was a vibrant display of cultural pride, creativity, and innovation—everything that makes contemporary African fashion so captivating.

From start to finish, I was in awe of the brilliant designs and intricate details that defined the collection. Niyi-Leigh’s ability to blend luxurious fabrics, bold silhouettes, and traditional African influences with modern sophistication left me truly speechless.

The first look introduced a striking green ensemble, where the solid emerald bodice exuded elegance, and the printed sleeves and lower panels infused the outfit with traditional African motifs.

The contrast between bold solid colors and intricate patterns was simply stunning. The model’s high-fashion hairstyle completed the dramatic yet refined look.

The second design—a short wrap dress in deep earthy tones—was a true power statement. The patchwork-inspired patterns, featuring geometric and abstract designs, beautifully blended heritage and innovation.

The voluminous sleeves added regal sophistication, while the cinched waist highlighted the model’s figure. Braided pom-poms in her hair added an avant-garde touch, elevating this piece into something truly unique.

The third look celebrated tropical colors and bold pattern mixing. A vibrant dress in green, orange, and black featured floral and geometric prints that caught everyone’s eye. The tailored fit and collared neckline added sophistication, while the playful prints highlighted Olawunmi’s talent for weaving contrasting elements together seamlessly.

The fourth look was a powerful fusion of traditional African fabric and contemporary design—a peplum off-shoulder top with puffed sleeves, paired with sleek, full-length pants. The vibrant patterns of the fabric created a striking visual, and the simple yet captivating makeup allowed the bold prints to stand out as the focal point.

The collection closed with a show-stopping short-sleeve wrap dress in deep earthy tones, featuring patchwork patterns and a bold black underlay. The cinched waist and flattering silhouette showcased the model’s figure beautifully, while the braided pom-poms added a modern twist.

This piece perfectly captured the essence of both urban and runway fashion, making it a stunning finale to the show.

Throughout the “Marvel Beauty Collection,” Olawunmi Niyi-Leigh demonstrated a perfect balance of cultural authenticity and modern design. Her ability to blend heritage with innovation created a line that was not only wearable but deeply expressive. With its global appeal, the collection solidified Annette Couture as a brand that truly deserves international recognition. This wasn’t just a fashion show—it was a celebration of identity, culture, and artistry that resonated with everyone in the audience.
