EXPOSE Trains Over I00 Youths On Personal Hygiene, Menstrual Health In Edo

EXPOSE, a non-profit organisation focused on youth development and women’s empowerment, recently trained over I00 youths in Edo State on personal hygiene and menstrual health.

The event which came under the theme,” The gift of wellness,” also had in attendance some families, and community leaders in Uneme Osu area of Edo State where the programme was held.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Jowo Phillip-Okoro from the National AIDS, STIs Control & Hepatitis Programme (NASCP), stressed the need for the young ones to take care of their personal hygiene.

Okoro also noted that when the young ones cultivate the habit of taking care of their personal hygiene it would form part of their lives even when they get to adulthood.

While stating that illnesses can be prevented by being clean, she added that good personal hygiene will also benefit one socially and improve the perception that others have on an individual.

On her part, EXPOSE Deputy Director, Aineakho Ojior provided an engaging session on personal hygiene and menstrual health, addressing hygiene taboos and support systems to help break the silence on crucial health issues affecting women and girls.

Beyond the health talks, the event brought joy to the children of the community as the organisers of the event, prepared gift bags filled with hygiene products such as soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and detergent among other items. Girls received sanitary towels as part of efforts to promote menstrual hygiene awareness.

Adding to the cultural richness of the day, the event featured performances by Good Women’s Club, a group of older women from the community who entertained the crowd with traditional songs of praise, adoration, and thanksgiving.

It is worthy to note that “The Gift of Wellness’’ event exemplifies EXPOSE’s commitment to community-building and empowerment through practical support and education.

The event was also a reminder of the importance of community-driven initiatives, with local leaders, families, and children coming together to learn, celebrate, and support each other.
