The Elevation Edit: Pieces that Make the Look
By Yemisi Suleiman You do not always need a completely new wardrobe to look more polished. Sometimes, the right fashion piece or accessory is all it takes to transform a simple outfit. From statement skirts to standout denim, these are the pieces that can instantly give your wardrobe a more elevated, fashion-forward feel. 1. The Structured Blazer A wellcut blazer instantly brings sophistication to almost any outfit. Wear it over jeans and a T-shirt for a polished daytime look, or pair it with tailored trousers for a more refined finish. Choose classic black, cream, camel or a subtle print for maximum versatility. 2. A Statement Handbag A beautiful handbag can make even the simplest outfit feel intentional. Look for structured silhouettes, interesting textures, bold colours or elegant hardware. Sometimes, all a simple jeans-and-shirt combination needs is the right bag. 3. Oversized Sunglasses Few accessories deliver instant glamour quite like oversized sunglasses. They add mystery and polish while giving a basic outfit a more fashion-forward feel. Choose a frame that complements your face shape and let it become the focal point. 4. Tailored Trousers Swap everyday denim for sharply tailored trousers when you want a more sophisticated silhouette. Pair them with a fitted top, crisp shirt or relaxed knit. They are equally suitable for office, dinner or at a stylish weekend event. 5. The Silk Scarf A silk scarf adds colour, texture and personality to an outfit. Tie it around your neck, wrist or handbag, or wear it as a headscarf. A beautiful print can turn a neutral outfit into something much more memorable. 6. Statement Earrings When your outfit feels a little too simple, let your earrings do the talking. Sculptural hoops, oversized drops and chandelier styles can instantly elevate a look, particularly when paired with a sleek hairstyle and minimal clothing. 7. A Classic Belt A sophisticated belt can completely change the proportions of an outfit. Cinch it over a blazer or dress, or use it to give jeans a more polished finish. Look for quality leather and an elegant buckle that will work beyond a single season. 8. Pointed-Toe Shoes Pointed-toe pumps, slingbacks or flats create a sleek, elegant finish. Neutral shades such as black, nude and chocolate brown offer maximum versatility, while metallics can bring a little evening glamour. 9. A Versatile Maxi Dress A beautifully cut maxi dress can take you from day to night with a simple change of accessories. Look for flattering shapes and quality fabrics. Add flats and a structured bag for daytime, then switch to heels and statement jewellery for evening. 10. A Signature Watch or Bracelet Understated accessories can make a powerful impression. A classic watch, sleek cuff or carefully layered bracelets adds polish without competing with the rest of your outfit. 11. The Statement Skirt Give your wardrobe some movement with a statement skirt. Think bold prints, dramatic volume, metallic finishes, tassels, feathers, sequins or sculptural silhouettes. Keep the top simple, a fitted shirt, or tank and allow the skirt to take centre stage. 12. Statement Denim Denim does not have to be basic. Try embellished jeans, wide-leg silhouettes, patchwork designs, unusual washes or dramatic denim skirts. Pair statement denim with understated separates to create that effortless high-low balance. ... -

REMOTE CONTROLLED LOVEMAKING
Technology has entered almost every corner of our lives, and apparently, the bedroom is not exempted. Today, a couple can be physically apart and still attempt to create sexual closeness through devices controlled remotely. It sounds exciting, modern and perhaps adventurous, but it raises an uncomfortable question: when does a sexual aid stop adding to intimacy and begin competing with it? For many blacks, discussing sex openly remains difficult, girls were warned about sex, pregnancy and “good behaviour,” but were rarely encouraged to understand their bodies or speak openly about pleasure. Even after marriage, some women still struggle to tell their husbands what they enjoy, dislike or need. The irony is that silence does not kill desire. It simply leaves people to discover sexuality privately, sometimes through trial and error and increasingly through technology. Sex toys are no longer as mysterious or inaccessible as they once were, some married couples use them to introduce variety into their sexual lives. There is nothing inherently wrong with two consenting adults deciding together what works for their relationship. The concern begins when the device becomes more important than the person. If someone begins to feel that sex is incomplete without a particular device, repeatedly chooses it over intimacy with a partner, or struggles to become sexually responsive without it, this may be time to pause and reflect. We should also be careful with the word “addiction.” Frequent use alone does not necessarily constitute addiction. The concern is compulsive use that begins to interfere with intimacy, emotional connection, responsibilities or the ability to enjoy sexual contact without the device. What do we enjoy? What makes either of us uncomfortable? Why are we using this? Is it bringing us closer or quietly creating distance? Are we exploring together, or is one partner becoming dependent on an object? Good sex in marriage is not simply about orgasm, it is also about affection, communication, vulnerability, trust and the feeling of being wanted by the person with whom you share your life. Africa needs more mature conversations about sexuality, we must challenge the shame that prevents married couples from discussing sexual needs, while also avoiding a future where technology replaces human connection. Technology can assist intimacy, but it cannot provide tenderness, reassurance, emotional connection or the feeling of being genuinely desired by your partner. Remote controlled lovemaking may be modern, but intimacy remains human. Use technology if it brings two consenting adults closer. Make sure the device remains an aid to the relationship, not a replacement for the person beside you. -
