How To Dress For A Cocktail Party

Although a cocktail party is not a black tie event that requires you to adhere to strict dressing rules, it still gives some concern as to what to wear because it is not a casual- dress event either. Dressing for a cocktail party shouldn’t be complicated if you already know how to dress appropriately for different occasion.

Cocktail parties can be small informal events like weddings, a book launch, a boutique opening or a welcome or send-off party. The bottom line is to dress appropriately and look and feel good about yourself.

Still having a challenge as to what and how to dress? Here are a few rules to guide you.

1. Put on a chic and elegant cocktail dress. Dresses are still in vogue so you’d easily find something you’d like. Your choice of dress long or short should not be more than a few inches above the ankles or a few inches above the knees. Undue body exposure is unnecessary. Choose something appropriate.

2. Accessorize your attire. Opt for jewellery that flatters your dress but don’t overdo: one or two items will be enough. Don’t forget about a good purse, it is essential to carry it while holding a drink.

3. Wear dress shoes. Heels are the best option but flats are acceptable, too. Think of comfort; cocktail party is usually long and you will have to be on your feet all the time.

4. Pay attention to styling. Spend extra time on your hair, nails and makeup. Messy look is not a good idea for a cocktail party.
