Senator Florence Ita-Giwa Holds Lecture on Climate Change
Senator Florence Ita-Giwa and the Seagull Band hosted a lecture and stage presentation at the Ballroom of Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. The subject of the lecture and stage presentation was ‘Climate Change: A Time for Action’. The Seagull Carnival Band is one of the official festival bands that participate annually in the Calabar Carnival. The group won the 2016 carnival competition with their excellent depiction of the carnival theme: ‘Climate Change’.
While speaking during the event, Senator Ita-Giwa said: “The management of the team has come to appreciate the need to highlight the consequences of climate change on our fragile planet. In this regard, the band has adopted advocacy for action on climate change. We desire to bring the message home to a wider audience, hence our decision to host a lecture and stage presentation; we also invited an expert on ‘Climate Change’ to give a talk to drive home the dire consequences of inaction.”
Senator Ben Bruce delivered the keynote address at the event while environmental activist, Mr. Desmond Majekodunmi, was the guest speaker.
