How to achieve work-life balance

February 11,2019

The work we do puts food on the table. It can become detrimental if other areas (like leisure, health etc) of ones life suffers. This is where workplace balance comes to play. It is important to live a balanced life altogether.

See ways below in which you can achieve some work-life balance everyday:

  • Identify the activities that consume most of your time and then grade those activities per their level of importance in your life. You could be surprised by how you spend your time. If you limit the time spent on the least important activities, you may find more time in your day for other things.
  • The efficient and productive you are at work, the easier it is for you to go home at a reasonable time. When you can focus on a task, you will be more productive over a shorter period of time than if you are frequently interrupted. Always ensure that tasks completed are in line with your Key Performance Indicators and will help you make a real impact with your work.
  • Flexibility is an important part of maintaining a good work-life balance. If it is possible to work from home one day out of the week do so. Another way to have some flexibility is to come in and leave earlier or have some flexibility with your hours.
  • We all juggle many responsibilities and roles in our lives. At work, you might be a boss, a colleague and a mentor. At home, you might be a parent; a caregiver for an older family member; a sibling; a spouse or partner; and a friend. But aside from the various roles and responsibilities that you have make sure to have some “ME TIME”.
