Excerpts;
Singer Maj

Maj

Your latest single,  cup e don full, is it a personal experience? What’s really the inspiration behind the new song?
Yes, it’s a personal experience. I found myself in a situation and I allowed them string me along for so long with false hope and all. I eventually got to a point where I couldn’t take the hurt anymore and decided it was time to move on.
How did you deal with heartbreaks if you’ve had any?
Dealing with breakup for me is more a gradual process. Over the years, I have come to the realization that heartbreaks in itself is more a gift. I did cry at the end of these relationships but as soon as the crying phase was over, I infused all the hurt, pain and lessons into my work. So to anyone who may be dealing with heartbreak now, cry for as long as you deem fit, I am certain that pain will not last for long.
Love, sex and money, which is more important to you?
Love is the bedrock of any relationship be it causally, sexual, professional, name it and thus I’d say it is just as important as Money for me. I am in an industry where love is just as important, if not more important. If as an artiste you are well loved, not only will you have a great fan base, but a growing one which when properly managed, transforms into money. So love and money, for me.
Do you think the Nigerian music industry is fair to female singers?
The industry doesn’t have a lot of female artistes but times have changed so I believe it’s not about who’s being fair to us or not. They’re beginning to adjust to the fact that female talents are breaking out and are here to stay.
What do you think about the lack of harmony between Nigerian female artistes?
Speaking on Lack of harmony between female artists; I don’tʼt think there’s a lack of harmony, the few of us still finding our footing in the industry are mostly focused on individual growth, I believe this is why it looks like there’s no harmony. I have love for my fellow females and musicians as a whole.

What next should fans expect from you?
My fans should expect more music in form of an EP soon.
Apart from the Grammys which we missed, in what other way can Nigeria be strategic in music in other to win more international awards?
We need to understand the music business in-depth and follow that up with outstanding songs that still reflect our style.
Would you say Nigerian artistes are reaping the fruit of their labour like their counterparts abroad?
Yeah, I believe the new school musicians are reaping to a good extent. Since we now have the advantage of digital distribution, that can give streaming revenue, buy or download revenue.
Even the veterans and other A-List artistes are reaping revenue from music as depending on their fan base or listeners.
