Glastonbury Festival cancelled due to coronavirus

Glastonbury Festival 2020, an event that was to witness performances from the likes of Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar, has been cancelled due to the coronavirus crisis.

Organizers of the annual five-day event disclosed this in a statement on Twitter at about the same time when the global death toll from COVID-19 had hit 7,994 with “more than 200,000” infected.

“We send apologies to the 135,000 people who have paid a deposit for a Glastonbury 2020 ticket. We understand that it is not always easy to secure a Glastonbury ticket,” the statement read in part.

“We would like to offer all those people the chance to roll their £50 deposit over to next year and guarantee the opportunity to buy a ticket for Glastonbury 2021.

“Those who would prefer a refund of that £50 will be able to contact See Tickets in the coming days in order to secure that. This option will remain available until September this year.

“We’re no longer able to spend the next three months with thousands of crew here, helping us with the enormous job of building the infrastructure needed to welcome more than 200,000 people.”

Glastonbury’s cancellation of its 50th anniversary further stretches the list of some major concerts that have been cancelled, suspended, or postponed over the coronavirus outbreak.

The US’ Coachella was earlier postponed after the Riverside County, a political division wherein it was to hold, reported coronavirus cases.
