Movie review: Temi Otedola made “Sorosoke” generation proud in Citation
Although her debut in Nollywood, Temi Otedola, the daughter of Billionaire Businessman, Femi Otedola made us all proud as the lead character of the movie, Citation!
Obviously a novice, Temi stood out as one of the Sorosoke (Speak Out) generation; her role was a significant one and she did a good job.
You could see naivety, but then for a fresher, Temi Otedola deserves an accolade.
Kunle Afolayan’s Citation is deep movie; exploring the subject of social decadence in the educational sector, the movie is a college drama about a female postgraduate student who has to find a way of dealing with sexual harassment from a lecturer whose credentials is intimidating.
He manipulates her way into her innocence and cunningly try to get away with it.
Shot in Nigeria, Senegal, and Cape Verde, Citation will keep you glued to your screen especially if you had been through the four walls of a university, especially in Nigeria.
Citation the movie boasts an ensemble of A-list actors of diverse nationalities like Ivorian theatre icon, Bienvenu Neba; veteran broadcaster and actor, Sadiq Daba; upcoming Nollywood actress, Bukunmi Oluwashina; French-Ivorian actor and screenwriter, Raymond Reboul; theatre educator, Toyin Bifarin and veteran Nigerian film director and actor, Wole Olowomojuore, aka ‘Baba Gebu’, Nigerian veteran Joke Silva and other popular faces.
And yes we love to see Ini Edo grace our screen again after a long time and watching Gabriel Afolayan for the first time feature in his brother’s movie.
However, the two hours and thirty-minute length movie is slightly unnecessary just to get the message to hit home. Lots of unnecessary scenes and dragging. (I dare to say, I slept off twice). Beautiful location and tourist sites, Africa is a beautiful place indeed!
