Music: Why It Took Me Three Years To Record ‘Made In Lagos – Wizkid

Nigerian singer Ayodeji Balogun better known as Wizkid, says it took him up to three years to create his ‘Made In Lagos’ album because he had to re-record the project up to 10 times.

On Friday, Wizkid finally released the 14-track body of work after teasing it for over two years and five months.

In a chat with Beat 99 FM, he revealed there had been 10 different ‘Made In Lagos’ before the one he released.

“You know, I blew up young. I came into the game young. So every time I make an album, it’s almost like I don’t plan it. I don’t sit down and say I want to make an album in like two weeks, two months, or one year,” Wizkid said.

“Everything is just part of my growth. In the last three years, there are so many things that have happened to me. I’ve been blessed with a new son. I’ve been blessed with a lot; learned a lot of lessons.

“We’ve been hit by one of the craziest things in the world which is the pandemic. All of that adds to why the album took longer. Believe it or not, there were ten different ‘Made In Lagos’ before we made this one.”

In August 2018, Wizkid scheduled the project’s release for October 1 of the same year but it didn’t come through.

Wizkid: There Are Many Naira Marley Songs I Wish I Sang

When questioned on the songs he wished he owns, the singer added: “On my playlist? I listen to everybody. There are so many Naira Marley songs I wish I sang but I can’t say the things he says.

“There are people you don’t think I listen to that I do. Because you, as a musician, you’d be stupid not to pay attention to words around you, especially the young. There are so many Naira Marley songs I wish I sang.

“But I can’t say the things he says, although they’re things I think about in my head. That’s why I love him.”
