How Nollywood’s Sotonye Dublin-Green Died Of COVID-19

January 16,2021

A Nigerian lady identified as Debby Emokpaire has alleged that Sotonye Dublin-Green, an upcoming Nollywood actress who died as a result of COVID-19 complications, was neglected at the Yaba Isolation Centre, Lagos.

In an Instagram post on Monday, Emokpaire had announced the death of Sotonye, who she regarded as her best friend while alleging that “Yaba isolation center killed her”.

To further buttress her claims on Friday, she shared screenshots of chats the deceased had with another friend, identified as Aret Edet, wherein the late actress claimed she was not being taken care of at the isolation centre.

In the chat, Sotonye appeared to have pleaded with Edet to inform her parents to remove her from the center. She also alleged that they neglected her and refused to give her oxygen.

“Last week, I was in asaba filming. I didn’t have much time to keep a tab on her but luckily, she was in communication with our other friend @aret_edet . The people at that isolation center frustrated her to death,” she added.

On January 11, Debby had also shared a video wherein she narrated how Sotonye was “neglected by workers at the Yaba isolation center” where she was being treated.

“Good morning people, please let’s try to stay safe. Covid is real in Nigeria. I lost my best friend to COVID this morning. Maybe not to this sickness but to neglect. They are telling us that they have isolation centers but they don’t take care of people at the centers,” she had alleged.

“It’s better you do not have COVID. It’s better you don’t catch it because if you don’t know anybody in the government if you are not a rich fellow, they will not attend to you. See, a lot of people that came back for the Christmas and New-year celebration from abroad didn’t go into isolation.

“They didn’t even do the covid test for them. My friend told me that he paid $100 at the airport and they told him to go. Even my pastor said in church yesterday that he paid N50,000 but no test was done. They allow these people to come into the country, they didn’t self-isolate. They mingled with a lot of us.”

In a follow-up post, she revealed that the late actress was constantly deprived of the oxygen her parents paid for but those who bribe them continued to enjoy the oxygen and received their full attention.

She, however, called on the Lagos state government to investigate the isolation center and get to the root of the matter.

“Please, if you know anyone who has COVID, they should stay home, self isolate and treat themselves. They should not go to that Yaba Isolation centre. They are killing people at that Yaba isolation center so that they can have numbers to count,” she claimed.

“Imagine, they will come and take the oxygen that her family bought for her, they will take it and give it to other people. It’s the people that give them money, they give oxygen to. People that bribe them are those they take care of.

“Lagos state government please look into that place. You need to see our chats. They will come and take her oxygen. Sometimes her oxygen will finish from morning to night and they will not give her oxygen.”

Sotonye was laid to rest on Friday.

Emokpaire shared a video of the burial ceremony on her page with the caption: “goodnight my dearest.”
