Tacha Defends Wike’s Cash Gift, Says Burna Boy Deserves Public Holiday

Tacha Akide, ex-BBNaija housemate, has called out those criticising Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, for the way he honoured Burna Boy over his recent Grammy win.

Wike hosted the ‘African Giant’ crooner at Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Saturday, and organised a homecoming concert in his honour.

At the concert, he had announced N10 million cash gift each to the ‘Ye’ singer and all other musicians that performed at the event.

Mixed reactions have continued to trail the governor’s gesture, with some accusing him of being insensitive to the plights of teachers owed salaries in the state.

But in a video on her Twitter page on Sunday, the reality TV star slammed those condemning the governor for gifting Burna Boy the cash gift.

Tacha argued that Burna Boy deserves to have a town in the state named after him as well as public holidays dedicated to celebrating his heroics at the 2021 Grammy Awards.

Buttressing her point, she added that the concert would help reawaken the entertainment landscape in the state, which according to her, is fast-becoming moribund.

The entrepreneur said while she is not a fan of Wike “for not doing enough for the people of the state”, the criticisms over his treatment of Burna Boy were unnecessary.

“I’m not exactly a fan of Wike because he hasn’t done much for the people of the state. But you’re mad to think what the governor did for Burna Boy is unnecessary or shouldn’t be a priority. You must be crazy to think that way. You all don’t know my state. Entertainment in my state is dead. Nightlife, carnivals and all that no longer exist literally,” she said.

“So, for him to have asked Burna Boy to come down to the state and consequently gave him land and N10 million…those thinking it’s too much must be loosing it. Burna Boy should have a whole town named after him.

“He won a whole Grammy, not an inter-state or local award. He should even have public holidays dedicated to him. So, those criticising Wike for honouring him must be mad because he has won something…let me not shade your favourites. Let’s just move.”
