September 29,2021
Share:

No doubt, lots of shocking controversies engulfed the Nigerian entertainment industry in the past few months.

From divorces to allegation of cheating, fights among celebrities, and rape scandal, controversies continue to sell the industry.

Celebrities are susceptible to controversy, either through their recklessness or from just being famous.

Here are six recent controversial news that made headlines and shook the industry.

  1. Annie Idibia and Tuface marriage crisis

Fans of legendary singer, Tuface Idibia were utterly shocked on September 3rd as Annie Idibia called out her husband on social media for sleeping at his ex-lover, Pero’s house, thereby disrespecting her and their marriage.

This escalated quickly as Tuface’ brother, Charles accused Annie of assaulting the music legend and preventing his family from visiting their home.

This led to a back and forth between Annie and 2face’s brother, Charles which was criticised by fans and celebrities who looked up to the Idibia’s and felt such family drama should be private.

In the midst of this, there were rumors that 2baba’s ex-lover, Pero was allegedly pregnant. However his management debunked the rumor.

Tuface finally reacting to the brouhaha online admitted that he makes mistakes and not perfect. That came shortly after he escaped to America.

  1. Anita and Peter Okoye’s divorce

In August 2021, Anita Okoye’s marriage to Paul of Psquare crashed after 7 years.

In a leaked petition which went viral, Anita filed for a divorce, demanding N7.8m as spousal support in a petition for divorce.

She cited irreconcilable differences as the basis for the divorce after seven years of marriage.

Although the news of their pending divorce came as a massive shock to many Nigerians, there had been indications that the couple had been in a serious domestic crisis.

Paul Okoye, addressing the issue urged fans to mind their business and learn to respect the decision of others when it comes to issues that affect them directly.

  1. Tonto Dikeh, Bobrisky ,Kpokpogri Saga

It was beautiful to watch Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh find love again after her marriage to Olakunle Churchill crashed.

However, her new found love with her ex-lover, Prince kpokpogri turned soar as a voice note leaked online.

Tonto Dikeh accused Kpokpogri of having sexual tapes he uses to blackmail ladies. She spared no one as she dragged popular dancer, Jane Mena into the mess, alleging that Kpokpogri has sex tapes of the dancer.

Kpokpogri responding disclosed that he broke up with the mother of one because of her drug habits, insisting that she undergoes a drug test by NDLEA.

Bobrisky who already had a beef with his ‘Bestie’ Tonto Dikeh seized the opportunity to call out the actress.

However, just a few hours ago, the cross-dresser apologised to Tonto Dikeh, seeking her forgiveness.

  1. Boma and Tega ‘BBNaija strategy’

Big Brother Naija, after it aired on the 24th of July took over the entertainment industry as 26 housemates were ushered into the ‘Shine Ya Eye’ season.

As part of their strategy to stay longer in the house, Two season 6 housemates; Boma and Tega engaged in sexual activities which raised eyebrows as fans and housemates blamed Tega who is married with a child for engaging in such an immoral act.

Her act with Boma led to her eviction from the show as her fan base dropped drastically. This also affected her marriage to her husband. Tega’s husband disapproved of her actions and felt ashamed she could do such to their marriage.

However, upon their exit from the house, Tega and Boma told viewers that the sexual activities were fake and a strategy to go far in the reality show.

Tega apologised to her husband and Boma apologised to his fans for his actions with a married woman.

  1. Tiwa Savage vs Seyi Shay fight

In June, two of Nigeria’s finest female singers engaged in a fight at a salon in Lagos as they threw insults at each other and had to be pulled apart to prevent more damage.

In a video, which went viral online, they were seen being pulled apart from each other.

It all started after Seyi Shay walked up to Tiwa to exchange pleasantries, a move that did not sit well with the mother of one.

In Tiwa’s defense, she had not forgotten what Seyi and Victoria Kimani did to her in the past.

Recall that Seyi and Victoria in 2019 released their covers of Kizz Daniel’s hit song, ‘F**k You’, where they had both dissed Tiwa Savage.

However, recent posts by both singers on instagram show that they may have just reconciled and settled their differences.

  1. Baba Ijesha rape Scandal

Baba Ijesha was arrested in April for alleged sexual assault involving foster child of Comedian, Damilola Adekoya aka Princess.

The veteran actor was caught in a CCTV footage intentionally set up by Princess, sexually assaulting the minor which led to his arrest.

The matter which is still being decided in court shook the movie industry and even caused rift between Nkechi Blessing, Iyabo Ojo and Yomi Fabiyi.

However, Baba Ijesha pleaded not guilty to a six-count charge which includes sexual assault by penetration, indecent treatment of a child, and sexual assault.

Others are the indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault and attempted sexual assault by penetration.

The fate of Baba Ijesha is still undecided as the case is still in court.
