FASAMI’S FLAIR; THE 2022 COLLECTION

If you are a fashion lover, this one’s for you.
Lean a bit closer, let’s tell you something. Have you heard about the brand, Fasami?
We guess that you haven’t. But not to worry, we will be telling you all about them.

Fasami is a fashion label launched in 2020 by Kayode Mattew Fasami, a talented fashion designer. The brand is dedicated to creating fashionable garments that resonate with the everyday woman.

They are a label that embodies the spirit of Nigeria’s new generations with a mixture of traditionality.
The brand’s vision was adopted from the creative designer Kayode’s household.

Watching his mother pick up fashion design from his grandmother, Kayode got immersed in the world of fashion quite early in life. That in turn led to the establishment of Fasami, a tribute to the intergenerational legacy of his family.

Through the brand’s creation of various sets of collections, the label has attracted a good number of clients from across Africa. Aside from that, Fasami has also been recognised in several local publications and continues to make waves in the fashion industry.
From the brand’s creations, we will be examining its 2022 Fasami collection.

The 2022 collection consists of three stylish creations that can take your breath away.
Come with us.

Take a pause and look at this precious piece. Ranking number one in this collection is this outfit. Don’t you just love the intricacies of the attire? In creating this beautiful piece, the designer utilised a satin beige pink coloured fabric.

Starting from the lower half of the dress, we see a flowy pair of pants. This design is one of the most sought-after trousers because of the simplicity and comfort that it offers. With the view from the picture, you can liken this type of wide-leg pants or a Palazzo pant because they all share a certain sense of wideness in their making, though this one is particularly exaggerated in width.

The pants fall to floor length with about a 2–3-inch elastic waistband situated by the mid-waist of the wearer to give it a firm hold on the body. The one thing that stood out about this facet of the design is how expansive it is. It is almost as though the width is there to make a statement, and we are meant to interpret it however we want, aside from the obvious. And we can say this, it carries a sense of elegance and grace with it.

Moving up to the blouse is a sight to behold.
Just like the bottom half, the blouse is a perfect example of what we call bold, stylish and simple, it is a one-of-a-kind. It is an off-shoulder top that is on another level, and we will tell you why. Unlike many other off-shoulder dress that tries to have an all-around fit, this one is different. In a bid to maintain class while still giving full comfort to the wearer, the designer came up with this pleated top with slightly puffed sleeves that is held up with elastic positions at the neckline, shoulder line and the wrist.

Aside from having dual feature that makes it okay to mix and match, another advantage of this outfit is that it can be worn anywhere, formal, semi-formal and even casual events.
Dress number two, like the first, is a two-piece attire crafted out of two different fabrics, A royal blue silk chenille and a metallic dark silver silk.

You can agree with us that the top of this set has the ‘main character’ vibe. No doubt, it is simple, yet the intricacies put into its design give it an eccentric flair. The top starts with an asymmetric neckline which slants down from the left shoulder to the right. That’s not all, the switch comes in at the sleeve.

After the neckline is a slightly broad bishop sleeve, also called a puff sleeve. This sleeve is unique because it is elevated with two layers, which qualifies it to also be called a layered puff sleeve. The major highlight of this part is that the right sleeve is detachable. Unlike the other sleeve that is sewn to the shoulder line, the right sleeve is only held to the body by an elastic band. This thrilling addition makes this dress quite the catch for styling, as it would give room for a lot of exploration. And a three-quarter length, which makes it qualified to be called a puffed bracelet sleeve. Some of its minor features are the dart lines at the sides of the front view and a back zipper.

The bottoms or pants of the set are a simple straight trouser. Crafted with a metallic dark silver silk, the pants began with a 3-inch waistband with Dart lines at the back for shaping. Then it flows down in a slightly loose fit before getting tapered at the hem. Such an addition allows the pants the privilege of being called straight pants or carrot trousers. Additionally, the trouser comes with a side zipper and two in-seamed pockets.

The final piece of the collection is a combination of a mini/midi gown with many features. First thing to know is that the gown was made out of a thick ash coloured chenille fabric.

The attire starts with a V-neckline that comes with two distinctive sleeves. On the right hand is a flutter sleeve, while on the left hand is the absence of a sleeve. At mid-waist, there is a conjoining of the upper bodice to a flowy skirt, which makes the gown a flared dress.

This interesting addition brought along with it an outstanding attribute, a slanted hemline. This asymmetrical cut ran from the left side to the right side, making the dress look like a mini dress while at the same time resembling a midi gown. The last two additions to be made to the dress were the one-sided peplum on the left side and a long coil zipper at the back for fitting and closure.

Let’s be frank, Fasami did well with these sets in the collection. We can imagine the sheer effort, detailing and skill that went into each design. But on the other hand, we believe the designer should pay close attention to preferences in crafting women’s attire. In the first dress, the overriding feature was the overall broadness. Now, while that is superb for comfort, the designer must bear in mind that not many women want to wear a dress that is way too big for them. Therefore, to remedy this designer Kayode can introduce a replica of the design with less volume.

For the second piece, what dimmed its presence was the fact that the colours and kind of fabric used weren’t very complementary. So, it created some kind of clash of colours.

On the bright side, it can be worn as a colour blocking set, but for more flair and poise, we believe the designer could go for more complementary and eye-catching colours like yellow, but if the designer wants to play it safe, then a dark shade like black would do.
Like the first two, the third dress was a brilliant design, but the biggest problem with it was two things: the sleeves and the one-sided peplum. Already, the dress is flared, adding more features like the flutter sleeve, and the peplum is just overdoing it.

Rather than doing so, the designer could completely take out the peplum and swap the flutter sleeve for a lean puff sleeve placed on both arm holes.

Regardless of these details, we say well done to Fasami and the designer, Kayode. The glaring factor of aura and class present in each piece is truly outstanding. Don’t drop the ball!
