Organisers of The Headies, an annual award to celebrate outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry, have announced that the 15th edition would take place in the United States, first time outside Nigeria since its inception in 2006.
The organisers broke the news at an event held in Lagos on Tuesday ahead of this year’s edition scheduled for July 2, 2022.
In a rather terse statement, the organisers said the award would hold at the Cobbs Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, US.
The statement also said the 15th edition of the award ceremony would be themed ‘Join the Movement.’
“The 15th Headies will be held at the prestigious Cobbs Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, U.S.A. The official theme of the 15th Headies is ‘Join the Movement’. Are you ready to Join us on this movement.”
It is understood that a new category celebrating music executives would be included in this year’s edition of The Headies.
The 15th edition of The Headies, formerly known as the Hip Hop World Awards, is also expected to feature a conference and music festival.
The Headies Awards have been won by several music stars in the past including Davido, Wizkid and 2Baba.
It has also been trailed by heated controversies on several occasions, in the past.
