YOUR GUIDE TO THE PERFECT TWIST-OUT!

July 25,2022
Share:

Don’t get it twisted, the perfect twist-out will always be one of the most popular hairdos for naturalistas. It looks stunning on hair of any length and lasts ages if properly cared for. And most importantly, it’s one of the simplest looks to do!

Here are our easy steps to get you on your way to Twist-out Diva.

START WITH CLEAN HAIR
Every look starts with the basics – cleanse, condition, and style. The best way to prep your hair for a new style is to start with freshly washed, conditioned coils. Cantu’s Sulfate-Free Cleansing Cream Shampoo is made with shea butter and formulated to gently cleanse and moisturize your hair while removing product build-up. Follow with a good conditioner to reduce pre-style frizz, and add in much-needed moisture. Cantu’s Sulfate-Free Hydrating Cream Conditioner does all the above and helps your hair retain natural oils for fewer split ends and longer style retention.

Next up use a leave-in conditioner for an intense moisture boost. Cantu’s Leave-In Conditioning Cream works wonders on dry, brittle hair, helping reduce breakage and encourage strong growth. It’s made with pure shea butter and formulated without harsh ingredients for an intense moisture boost, revealing stronger, healthier hair with a natural shine.

DETANGLE
This is a super-important step in the twist-out process. Using Cantu’s Coil Calm Detangler before styling helps avoid breakage and keeps your hair knot- and tangle-free. It’s usually best to finger detangle instead of a brush, but a wide-toothed comb works just as well.

TWIST
Time to start twisting! Depending on your hair length and how voluminous you want your curls to be, section your hair first into quarters, then each quarter into small sections the size of the twists you want.

Making sure your hair is damp, cocktail Cantu’s Coconut Curling Cream with the Moisturizing Twist & Lock Gel. Apply to each small section from root to tip with your fingers as you start to twist. The combination of ultra-moisturizing ingredients makes even the driest coils defined, provides hold, and enhances your curls for frizz-free volume and lustrous shine.
Split each section into two even pieces and begin to twist both strands around each other, wrapping the hair around each strand tightly. If the hair looks even, neat, and securely in place, then you’ve got a good twist. Don’t forget to twirl the ends of your twist around your fingers to get that even curl all the way to the tips.

TWIST-OUT
Once your twists are done, it’s all about the waiting game. Your twists must be fully dry to give the curl definition, and depending on your hair and twist thickness, this could take a day or two. So be prepared to wait for greatness! Allow your hair to fully dry before carefully untwisting the knots. Use your fingers to separate each twist to maintain the curls.
For a finishing touch, lay your edges with Cantu’s Extra Hold Edge Stay Gel.

A few handy tips to remember –
Doing a twist-out on dry hair is a no-no. Twist-outs need moisture to take shape.
Make sure your hair is fully dry before untwisting – we can’t stress this enough!
Keep your curls poppin’ for longer with Cantu’s Comeback Curl Next Day Curl Revitalizer.
Keep your coils fresh – be sure to wrap your hair at night with a silk or satin scarf to keep your curls longer.

And there you have it, a gorgeous look that doesn’t require heat – the perfect twist-out.
