Lagos police arrest man for raping nine-month-old baby

A 27-year-old man has been arrested in Lagos for allegedly defiling a nine-month-old baby. The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident on Wednesday.

According to the police, a concerned member of the public reported the issue on Monday around 10 pm. The suspect allegedly went to the flat where the mother had placed the infant on the floor before hurriedly leaving the property to make a purchase. He reportedly had sexual intercourse with the little baby and immediately ran away from the scene.

The mother of the baby, who is 16 years old, came to the police station with the baby and was issued a medical form to enable her to take the child to the hospital for urgent medical attention.

The suspect was smoked out from his hiding on Tuesday at about 11:15 pm by detectives from Ijora Badia Division. During questioning, he admitted to the crime, and both the complainant and suspect gave statements.

The crime scene was documented by the police, and a blood-stained pair of pants was taken away as evidence. The suspect and case file will be sent to the state command’s Gender Department.

Reacting to the incident, Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said, “The Command will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the perpetrator of this heinous crime is brought to justice. The Command also reiterates its commitment to protecting lives and property in Lagos State.”
