Nollywood was Nigeria’s cultural ambassador before Afrobeats – Omotola

Nollywood icon, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, has recently found herself immersed in a wave of nostalgia as she reflects on the golden era of Nigerian cinema.

With a career spanning over two decades, the veteran actress took to social media to share clips from some of the most iconic Nollywood movies that shaped the industry.

From classics like “Yankee Girls” and “Games Women Play” to “Blood Sisters,” “All My Life,” and “Kosorogun,” Omotola took her fans on a journey through time.

Accompanying the videos, the talented actress penned a heartfelt caption highlighting the pivotal role of Nollywood in introducing Nigeria to the world long before the rise of Afrobeats and the era of social media.

Despite the challenges of limited resources and technical constraints, Nollywood managed to break barriers and captivate global audiences with its unique storytelling.

In her reflection, Omotola emphasized the remarkable achievement of Nigerian entertainment, even in the absence of the sleek production quality and widespread social media presence that we see today.

The movies she shared, though they may not boast the same visual polish as contemporary productions, served as a powerful catalyst for showcasing Nigerian talent on the international stage.

According to her, the Nollywood industry served as a cultural ambassador, bringing Nigerian stories, culture, and talent to the forefront long before Afrobeats took the world by storm.

In her words;

“Someone sent me some of these vids and it was nostalgic…..lol.
Despite the not-so-good quality… No social media…these movies Broke barriers… Way before Afrobeats we introduced Nigerian entertainment to the world. We still”.
