Don Jazzy inspired “How Are You My Friend” – Johnny Drille

In a candid revelation, Nigerian singer, John Ighodaro, popularly known as Johnny Drille, has shared that his chart-topping song “How Are You My Friend” was born out of the profound impact of grief following the passing of his record label boss Don Jazzy’s mother.

During a recent interview with Hip TV, Johnny Drille unveiled the poignant backstory behind the creation of the song. He disclosed that he co-wrote “How Are You My Friend” with Don Jazzy, highlighting that it was the Mavin boss’s idea.

Reflecting on the inspiration, Johnny Drille stated;

“For ‘How Are You My Friend,’ the inspiration behind it was Don Jazzy losing his mum just a few weeks prior. I believe this song was his way of expressing his feelings, as many long-lost friends reached out to him during that time.”

He further explained, “It made him realize that he had numerous friends he hadn’t connected with for years. I also believe we are living in challenging times, with a struggling economy and people facing hardships. Many individuals go through personal struggles that they may not feel comfortable sharing. Perhaps that’s why people have been able to resonate with the song.”

Johnny Drille’s heartfelt revelation sheds light on the power of music as a means of catharsis and connection. It showcases the deep emotional bonds that can be forged through shared experiences, even in the face of adversity.

“How Are You My Friend” continues to resonate with listeners, serving as a poignant reminder to reach out, check on loved ones, and extend compassion to those navigating life’s trials.
