HN Clothings Unveils “The Ogechi Line” At 2025 Nook International Fashion Weekend
February 16, 2025, was the third day of the Nook International Fashion Weekend in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and it opened with a bold statement from HN Clothings, setting an energetic tone for the evening.

As the first brand to showcase, Chikodinaka Chima, the creative force behind the label, presented “The Ogechi Line”.
Each piece carried a distinct structural rhythm, with layered fabric treatments, and unexpected design accents that redefined the conventional use of Ankara. The highlight of the presentation was the colourful display of the garments.
Chikodinaka’s ability to translate her illustrative vision into well-tailored garments was evident in this collection.

Across all Points of Measure (POMs), the collection displayed an intentional approach to shaping and balance. The proportioning of bodices to skirts, the strategic placement of tucks and pleats, and the variation in dress lengths were well thought out.
A fashion enthusiast’s delight is the peplum mermaid dress. The piece combined a peplum waist with a fitted mermaid skirt. The bright yellow bustier top contrasted artfully against the print-heavy lower half, which drew emphasis to the waist.
The peplum was voluminous, but it did not collapse, though the transition from the top to the skirt could have been improved with better seam placement.
The Ogechi Line explores creative and unconventional designs like the puff-sleeved satin top and mini skirt with a rosette accent. The V neckline and sleeves complemented the fitted mini skirt well, however, the rosette on the skirt risked disrupting proportions.
The seam allowances on this dress and on the woven skirt and top ensemble were cleanly finished, with well-executed French seams on the more delicate sections and overlocked edges where durability was important. The deliberate placement of the skirt panels was one of the most compelling aspects of this collection.
This demonstrated Chikodinaka’s background in illustration. Manipulating fabrics worked in some outfits but struggled in others, like the multilayered dress that has a ruched Ankara bodice, asymmetrical peplum, and a voluminous satin skirt.
The gathering at the bust and the peplum showed tensions. The organza peplum layer lacked reinforcement which made it appear limp. The blend of Ankara, satin, and organza aimed to give the outfit more creative depth, but the reduced cohesion in its execution left the outfit looking a little disharmonious.

The heat-setting treatment used for the finishing of the Ankara prints will ensure vibrancy and longevity, an essential factor that maintains visual integrity post-wash.
In the commercial landscape, this collection holds strong potential. The designs strike a balance between traditional African elegance and contemporary style, making them ideal for both formal and semi-casual settings.
“The Ogechi Line” reinforces Chikodinaka Chima’s status as a technically skilled designer with a strong artistic vision. The collection solidifies Hn Clothings’ standing as an innovative brand with a good eye for creative designs.
