Nigerian designer, Goodluck Jane Okwuchukwu, Creative Director of luxury fashion house Boriah Couture, added another milestone to her growing legacy when her original design was worn by former Washington State Senator Mona Das at the La Mode UK 100 Most Influential Leading African Women event held on March 8, 2025, in London.

The highly anticipated event—staged on International Women’s Day—celebrated the achievements of African women globally across leadership, entrepreneurship, politics, and the arts. Among a sea of elegance, Mona Das’s custom Boriah Couture ensemble stood out as a highlight of the evening.

A Gown That Tells a Story

Goodluck Jane Okwuchukwu’s design for Senator Das featured a deep emerald green sparkling short gown, accentuated with hand-embroidered sparkling stones motifs and a structured cape inspired by Igbo ceremonial attire. The piece symbolised unity, power, and diasporic excellence; a tribute to Das’s Indian heritage and her solidarity with African women.

“It was important to create a garment that spoke not only of beauty, but of strength, legacy, and transcontinental sisterhood,” said Goodluck Jane Okwuchukwu.

“Dressing Senator Das was an honour. Her advocacy, vision, and presence align perfectly with the Boriah Couture woman.”

Goodluck Jane Okwuchukwu is the trailblazing force behind Boriah Couture, a Lagos-based fashion brand renowned for merging architectural silhouettes with indigenous African artistry.

She is also the founder of the newly-launched Fashion Trainee Mentorship Program, a Pan-African initiative nurturing emerging design talent across the continent.

With her work now gracing international red carpets and diplomatic platforms, Okwuchukwu continues to push African fashion into global dialogue balancing cultural authenticity with modern sophistication.

The appearance of Boriah Couture at the La Mode UK Gala underscores the growing influence of African fashion voices in global spaces. It also marks a key moment in Okechukwu’s ascent as one of the designers redefining luxury and identity through fashion.

“Jane’s work reminds us that our garments can be vessels of meaning. Her design was not just worn it was felt,” Senator Mona Das remarked.
