My filming experience in Seoul – Hope Egbe, TV Producer

August 6,2025
Share:

Television producer and media executive Hope Egbe recently visited Seoul, South Korea. For her, it was not just a visit, but as part of her ongoing mission to spotlight cultural narratives and connect global communities through storytelling.

In this brief interview, she shares her experience and how filming in Seoul expanded her understanding of cross-cultural storytelling and the global Nigerian identity.

Words by Temitope Ojo

You recently travelled to Seoul, South Korea, where you had the opportunity to film a festival. Tell us more about your experience.

Yes. The unique opportunity to travel to Seoul, South Korea, was part of my ongoing mission to spotlight cultural narratives and connect global communities through storytelling.

The journey wasn’t just a visit; it was a powerful blend of culture, connection, and content creation.

While in Seoul, I filmed the vibrant Itaewon Global Village Festival, a multicultural celebration that reflects Korea’s rich diversity and the evolving global identities within the country.

Itaewon, known for its international flair, came alive with music, food, fashion, and stories from all over the world. Capturing the essence of this festival allowed me to showcase how Korea embraces global culture while still holding on to its deep traditions.

Were there Nigerian creatives and professionals over there, too?

Yes. In addition to the festival, my work focused on documenting the lives of Nigerians living in Seoul — students, entrepreneurs, creatives, and professionals who are making their mark in a foreign land. Through personal interviews and day-in-the-life segments, I explored their resilience, faith, ambition, and how they navigate cultural integration in a society vastly different from home.

Tell us more about the project

This project was not just a professional milestone. It was a deeply personal experience. Filming in Seoul expanded my understanding of cross-cultural storytelling and the global Nigerian identity. It reminded me of the power of media to build bridges, highlight shared experiences, and celebrate the beauty of diversity.
