BÉMI IVORY’s The Waterfall Collection Debuts at Paris Fashion Week

Nigerian designer, Oritsegbubemi Ogbobine, delivered a poised and powerful debut with BÉMI IVORY’s The Waterfall Collection at Paris Fashion Week recently, earning a standing ovation and instant critical acclaim.

Drawing its inspiration from the natural elegance and powerful motion of cascading water, at the heart of the collection is the idea of movement—ruffles flowing downward like a waterfall in constant descent.

With design featuring a monochromatic all-black palette that allows the eye to focus entirely on texture, movement, and sculptural form, giving each piece a striking architectural presence on the runway, The Waterfall Collection’s unapologetically displayed details such as dramatic descending ruffle trains that pool dramatically at the feet; tiered, waterfall-effect sleeves that cascade from shoulder to wrist; column gowns that ripple into layered volume as the model moves; and tailored separates where sharp tailoring dissolves into fluid ruffled panels.

“Black is not an absence of colour,” Ogbobine explained as she spoke on the collection’s choice of palette. “It embodies elegance, sophistication, and timelessness— just like these designs,” she added.

Fabrics also were chosen for their soft, feminine drape and luxurious hand-feel. Lightweight silks, fluid chiffons, and finely woven crepes fall with liquid grace, while structured elements in denser satins and technical taffetas provide contrast and architectural support. Intricate hand-beaded details such as tiny, glistening accents scattered across bodices, sleeves, and hems—adding sparkle without overwhelming the clean silhouettes.

Beyond aesthetics, The Waterfall Collection which drew deeply from Ogbobine’s Nigerian roots and personal journey, carries profound symbolism which Ogbobine describes as “close to her heart”. “Waterfalls represent power, purification, and renewal,” she said. “They mirror life’s journey— the courage to keep moving forward, to transform, and to release what no longer serves us. Beneath the beauty is an unstoppable force. This collection is about showing that strength and elegance can coexist perfectly in a woman’s life.”

Founded in 2021, BÉMI IVORY has steadily earned its place among luxury womenswear brands through elegant silhouettes, meticulous craftsmanship, and a storytelling approach that honours the strength, grace, and individuality of the contemporary woman.
