Soso Soberekon, according to Harrison Tare Okiri, aka Harrysong, is not his friend. He continued by claiming that Soberekon once dispatched assassins to kill him in Port Harcourt. During an interview with the host of the Frankly Speaking Podcast, the singer revealed this. The singer said this to justify his argument that people in the entertainment industry who claim to be his friends are actually his enemies. When Harrysong was signed to Five Star Music, a record label owned by Kcee and his brother, Emeka Okonkwo, Soso Soberekon was Kcee’s manager, but things fell apart between them when the singer left the label. Soso once sent his men to beat up Harrysong’s manager, Desmond Ike, for allowing the singer to leave the ...

Renowned Nigerian film producer and director, Kunle Afolayan, has responded to the Oscar selection committee’s rejection of his recently released film, ‘Anikulapo’. Oscar declared the film which revolved around a stranger who had an illicit affair with one of the King’s young wives, which resulted in his death sentence, as ‘non-eligible’. Last month, the Nigerian Oscar Selection Committee announced that three Yoruba-language submissions had been received: Anklápó, Elesin Oba, The King’s Horseman, and King of Thieves. The committee, however, rejected all three films because a majority of the selection committee voted that they were “ineligible.” Responding ...

Ed Sheeran, a British singer, has been charged in court with plagiarism of Marvin Gaye’s song. A federal judge ordered the singer to stand trial in response to allegations that he plagiarised Marvin Gaye’s 1973 hit song “Let’s Get It On” on his 2014 track “Thinking Out Loud.” In his court application, Ed Sheeran contended that the copyright claims were “baseless” and “far too frequent.” The plaintiffs, however, claim that Ed Sheeran and his writing partner, Amy Wadge, plagiarised and exploited the Marvin Gaye song without permission or credit, “including but not limited to the melody, rhythms, harmonies, drums, bass line, backing chorus, tempo, syncopation, and looping,” and they are seeking $100 million (£90 million) in damages. The trial date, on the other hand, is yet to be set. This is not the singer’s first legal battle. A lawsuit was recently filed against him and his songwriting partners, John McDaid and Steven McCutcheon, alleging that the chorus of their song “Shape of You” was lifted word for word from Ross O’Donoghue and Sami Chokri’s 2015 single, “Oh Why.” During the March 2022 trial, the High Court Judge ruled that the imitation was not done “purposefully or unconsciously.”  Ed and his co-defendants were awarded costs of £900,000 afterwards. Upon the court’s decision, Ed communicated his hope on his Instagram page that it would put an end to further frivolous claims.

In an unexpected twist, Chizzy and Rachel were evicted from the seventh season of Big Brother Nigeria (BBNaija). The show’s host, Obi-Uchendu, announced their eviction during a surprise visit to the house, where he had dinner with the housemates. Their eviction followed immediately after the housemates had finished the day’s task.  It also comes just two days before the show’s grand finale on Sunday. Ebuka had shown them the highlights of their time in the house prior to their eviction.  On August 7, they were added to the house as “riders.” While unveiling them, Ebuka stated that they would serve as agents for Biggie, the show’s instructive voice. Ebuka went on to say that while the duo cannot be disqualified, they are ineligible to win the show’s grand prize. Many fans of the show were surprised by their eviction because they expected them to stay until Sunday, as Ebuka had previously announced. Following their eviction, Phyna, Bryann, Bella, Daniella, Chichi, and Adekunle will compete for this year’s N100 million grand prize. The grand prize this year is the largest since the show’s inception in 2006. So far, the reality show has seen numerous dramas and never-ending twists.
