Grammy confirms plan to include Afrobeat category
The Recording Academy, also known as the Grammys, has confirmed that plans to add an Afrobeats category to the Grammys are being considered. The Recording Academy’s CEO, Harvey Manson, made the disclosure in Ghana. According to him, the recording academy held a listening session with key Afrobeats players, indicating that steps are being taken to establish an Afrobeats category. He went on to say that in order for the academy to make a decision, a proposal must be submitted, which is currently being worked on to ensure accurate representation of the various colours and styles that the Afrobeats sound possesses. -
Jim Iyke receives Chieftaincy title in Ghana
Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke, has received a Chieftaincy title in Ghana. According to The PUNCH, Her Royal Highness, the Eze Ndigbo Ghana, Dr. Chukwudi Ihenetu, bestowed the title “Ohadike 1 of Ndigbo” on the actor. The coronation was said to have occurred during the tenth Yam Festival. Iyke was recognised for his contributions to the Igbo community and the African entertainment industry, according to Ihenetu. Netflix to sponsor West African students in film, television courses
Netflix has asked West and Central African film and television students to apply for its Creative Equity Scholarship Fund (CESF). In a statement on Tuesday, the streaming juggernaut announced the scholarship. In accordance with the statement, chosen candidates would have the chance to study at institutions in a variety of countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, and Gabon. According to Netflix, the CESF, which was established in 2021, will provide funding to a number of initiatives over the following five years in an effort to create a robust, diversified global pipeline of creatives. The $1 million scholarship initiative, according to the streaming behemoth, is intended to enable aspirant creatives from West and Central African nations in obtaining legal education and training.
