The Recording Academy, also known as the Grammys, has confirmed that plans to add an Afrobeats category to the Grammys are being considered. The Recording Academy’s CEO, Harvey Manson, made the disclosure in Ghana. According to him, the recording academy held a listening session with key Afrobeats players, indicating that steps are being taken to establish an Afrobeats category. He went on to say that in order for the academy to make a decision, a proposal must be submitted, which is currently being worked on to ensure accurate representation of the various colours and styles that the Afrobeats sound possesses.

‘Essence’ by Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has been praised by American rapper, Kanye West as the best song in music history. The artist shared a beautiful caption with the song’s cover on social media. “Best song in the history of music till date”, he wrote. The singer’s fourth studio album, Made in Lagos, featured the track “Essence,” which was released in 2020.  Temilade Openiyi, a.k.a. Tems, appeared in it. Essence has garnered a lot of praise since its debut.  It made history by being the first song from Nigeria to chart on the Billboard 100 and the Billboard Global 200. The Best Global Music Performance category of the 64th Annual Grammy Awards was nominated for it.

Panshak Zamani, singer better known by his stage name, Ice Prince, has been taken into custody by the Lagos state police force on an accusation of assaulting a police officer. Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Command’s public relations officer, revealed this in a statement that was posted on Twitter on Friday. A police officer had allegedly stopped Ice Prince for driving without a license plate after receiving a complaint. He was however, later kidnapped in the car by the singer of “Oleku,” who had initially agreed to follow him straight to the station, was assaulted by him, and threatened to be thrown into the lagoon. Ice Prince has been detained, and he will be arraigned today, Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the arrest. Afro-fusion musician, Daniel Benson, also known as BNXN, has spoken out days after his naked photo was posted online by a Swedish woman claiming to be his lover,  A few days ago, it was claimed that a Swedish woman named Filma Jones uploaded a number of private films, including one that showed them in bed and another that showed the singer entirely naked.
